Why Feng Shui?Feng shui techniques allow us to mitigate the negative influences while enhancing the positive ones. The Chinese words feng and shui are actually descriptions of qi flow. “Feng” means wind and “shui” means water. Feng, as wind, refers to the invisible or intangible qi that flows through a space. Shui, as water, is the visible, more tangible flow of qi. Practicing good Feng Shui encompasses all the ways that qi can have a positive effect on the inhabitants of any specific environment. Using wind chimes or Chinese coins are some of the many Feng Shui corrections used when there are structural issues in your space that can cause sha chi (poison arrows). Juli will go through your home or office with a fine toothed comb to provide an evaluation that will be useful and worthwhile. Good Feng will help to prevent accidents and bring in peace.

What Is Qi?Qi (pronounced chi) is the Chinese word for “energy.” Everything animate and inanimate, real or conceptual, has qi. Different people have different qi. There is qi in every situation, event and object on this planet . Qi is the Isness of whatever is – the essence of the thing or situation. If your goal is good health and success in all areas of your life, then you must get the qi flowing properly. Juli will help you to do this.
Juli's Feng Shui Guide for Outdoor Spaces
The Front Door
-
The front door and front door area are probably the most important part of the home. It should be simple, clean, freshly painted and clutter-free.
-
Adding red flowers in the outdoor entry way is inviting and brings in the phoenix energy.
-
Avoid any plants that have thorns in the front of the house. All steps and/or walking paths coming to front door should be in good condition. (no broken stones, tiles, concrete etc).
-
The front walkway approaching the house is best if it has curves and meanders. Its nice to have flowers and small shrubs along the way to encourage the chi to nourish the space and delight us.
-
Straight line walkways bring the chi to the house too quickly and may cause accidents.
-
Replace your doormat to help attract fresh new opportunities to come in your life.
-
Make sure your house number is clearly visible from the street so positive chi can always find you.
Trees
-
Trees have family energy and are considered a wood element. They provide shade and are homes to many insects, animals and parasites. Putting them in the right place is very important.
-
Do not have a tree or post in line with the front door. Trees have amazing energy but they will steal all your front door chi if they are in line with the front door.
-
Trees should act as anchors for your property and can be in all 4 corners helping to delineate the borders of your property. 10 or more feet from the house is best and at least 5 feet from a fence or the adjacent neighbor's property.
-
Trees should be slightly taller on the right side of the house when facing the house (dragon side). If the property will allow it, a line of trees on the dragon side can be very good. Its best to stagger them a bit; not in a perfectly straight line. Varying heights are encouraged as well similar to the body of a dragon.
-
Its a good idea to prune large limbs that grow over the top of your house, because they can symbolize issues weighing down on you. Also, they drop debris on the roof which could shorten its life. Frequently remove leaves from your roof and gutters.
-
Trees directly in the back of the property are auspicious. A mountains landscape in the back of the home is most ideal acting as good supporting tortoise energy. In Florida, that would be a raised bed for trees and bushes in the back of the property. Another way to introduce the tortoise energy is with statues and/or sculptures.
-
Pine trees in the backyard are considered good luck. Fruit trees should be in the location of the homeowners financial sector.
-
When you remove a tree from your property, its important to replace the energy. Could be another tree in the same or similar area, or outdoor furniture, or simply an artfully placed wind chime or sculpture.
Remove all stumps by professionally grinding all the roots to remove the previous tree's energy. Otherwise the chi will constantly go to the stump trying to fix it. Stumps can also be dangerous especially at night.
Plants
-
Plants have earth energy and keep us stable. Flowering plants absorb negative energies and make us smile. It is best to have small flowering shrubs on the left side of the house, when facing the house (tiger side). This keeps the tiger low to the ground; not aggressive.
-
Put flowers wherever they make you happy but always at least five feet from the house. Remove vines that are growing on your house. The image of an ivy-covered cottage may be romantic, but vines growing on your home symbolize something eating away at your life. And plants touching the home are introducing water and insects to it. Keep them well pruned.
Water Features
-
Water and money are interchangeable in Feng Shui. So be careful where it is and its condition. If it is broken, its best to fix it or get rid of it. Best location for a water feature is in the homeowners financial sector. And it should appear that the water is flowing into the home (not a fountain that visually has water pouring out of the house).
-
Bird baths are not healthy for anybody especially the birds. They collect bacteria and fungus. All stagnant water should be removed. Ponds that do not have moving water are considered inauspicious.
-
Keep all pools and hot tubs in good working order. Koi ponds are considered good luck in the financial sector but they must be maintained properly.
Fire Pits
-
A wonderful way to socialize with family and friends is adding a fire pit to your backyard. Be sure it is professionally constructed so that it is long lasting and safe. Always have a bucket of water nearby when using it. Keep trees and bushes at least 10 feet from the area. Best location is in the homeowners romantic or fame sector.
